Damn son, we’re already three months into 2017! Ezhno’s soft tissue injury has put a real damper on some of my goals, but there are still nine months left to go and I think I’ll be able to meet most (if not all) of my original Goals for 2017 and my time-oriented goals that I set with my trainer despite the set back the injury has caused me.
3 MONTHS▸Be confident cantering into jumps.
Originally this was geared towards cantering Ezhno into jumps, but since Ezhno has been out of commission I’ve been tackling this goal with a general “stop trotting into jumps like a pansy”/”don’t feel nervous cantering up to a jump” approach. Ironically enough, I took more than a month off from jumping (hello, western saddles!) and when I came back to jumping for the clinic on Friday I suddenly discovered that the first jump in a line no longer makes me nervous. Apparently sometimes the best way to make progress is to stop trying to make progress!
Next up is my six month goal: competing at 2’0″ (in the Triforce Ring of our local Lake Washington Saddle Club H/J shows), which honestly sounds very, very easy at this point, I just have to pick whether I want to go to the May or June show.
