Quarterly Goals: Spring 2017

════ WINTER WRAP UP ════

Work on Raglan’s right lead It’s not 100% there, but the right lead is starting to happen!
Introduce more lateral work LOL NOPE. I probably should get on this at some point…
Incorporate more poles  I did more, but I need to get back into the habit of using them every ride.
Trailer out to new places SO MANY PLACES. EMR, SEC, and THF, plus the new barn (10M).
Start over cross rails  Easy peasy. We’re capping off winter with our first couple of 18″ jumps.

No big purchases, work on debt  Remember when I bought myself a horse trailer for Christmas?
Grow the blog audience  I’m getting more views (and more Insta followers!), but it wasn’t intentional.
Dedicate myself to writing a novel  I ended up doing the opposite and am on a writing hiatus.

════ SPRING GOALS ════

Get comfortable jumping 18″
Go to a schooling show
Go for a trail ride
Put weight on Rags

════ AUTUMN WRAP UP ════

Get Raglan sound again  This was touch and go, but it did get done. Shoes with pads = sound pony!
Take Raglan to his first show The November Eagle Mountain Schooling Show was a success 😀
Bring Raglan to the SEC for a lesson Didn’t end up happening, but hopefully sometime soon.
Establish Raglan’s canter Cantered Rags for the first time on October 27th! It was 100% awesome.

Take Ezhno for a trail ride It’s hard to make fun plans when you rely on others for transport. 😢
Work on slowing Ezhno’s canter  Ezhno’s canter has made major improvements in the past few months.
Improve Ezhno’s lateral movements I didn’t work on this as much as I should’ve, but they did improve!

Put a brake box in the truck Mostly in! I should probably screw the mounting bracket into the dash. 😅
Learn how to drive a trailer TrainerA’s schedule is hectic and we didn’t get around to coordinating this.
Buy my own jumping saddle  Finally bit the bullet and bought a lovely 2009 Devoucoux Biarritz!

Develop his ability to consistently pick up the right lead under saddle

Introduce lateral work (baby leg yield, turn on haunch/forehand, etc.)

Incorporate more poles (trot poles, canter poles, half-raised cavaletti, etc.)

Find more opportunities to trailer him out to new places

Start over cross rail courses towards the end of winter

════ GOALS FOR ME ════

No big purchases, pay off some of my credit card debt

Grow the blog (use Instagram, write posts for other sites, etc.)

Dedicate myself to starting and then finishing a novel

Quarterly Goals: Autumn 2017

Quarterly Goals: Autumn 2017

First off, I TURN 22 TODAY. Second off, RAGS GETS SHOES PUT BACK ON ONE WEEK FROM TODAY AND I AM SUPER PUMPED. But that’s not what this post is about. 😀

This post is about me being excited for a future filled with these two doofs!

Back at the start of the year I set a bunch of Goals for 2017, but my life is constantly in flux so I’ve decided that a new blog calls for new goals and a more mercurial system! But before I launch right into my goals for the next three months, here’s an overview of how those goals I set in January panned out.

Find a saddle that fits
This is a half success because I did buy a saddle and it does fit Ezhno, it just happens to be a western saddle (not what I intended to get).

Compete in the Triforce Ring
Jumping ended up not being for Ezhno (obviously), so I decided to set this goal aside for the time being.

Ride a dressage test
This still might happen! Eagle Mountain has dressage schooling shows over the winter and I think they’d be a great opportunity for Raglan.

Introduce Ezhno to cattle
Go on an overnight trail ride
These sounded like fun things to do with Ezhno (and they still do), but they’re not huge priorities now.

Take Ezhno to a clinic
There’s a performance clinic at KW this October, but I’m not feeling it so I think I’m going to pass.

Buy a truck and trailer
The truck part is done (just needs a brake box!), but keeping two horses means that finding the cash for a trailer might take a while.

That’s a lot of red X’s, but I think it’s more a sign of changing priorities than failure. I’m glad to set those goals aside so that I can move forward to the future, so let’s dive straight into my new goals!

Get him back in shoes and sound again

Take him to his first show (Eagle Mountain? LWSC?)

Haul him to the SEC for a lesson with TrainerM

Establish his canter

Take him for a trail ride (tree farm?)

Work on developing a slower canter

Work on his lateral movements

════ GOALS FOR ME ════

Put a brake box in the truck

Learn how to drive a trailer

Buy my own jumping saddle
